Resources
You will need an electronic device during the majority of taught sessions at university. From time to time it may be necessary to purchase folders or other small items of stationary to support you during the course.Â
There are food outlets available on main campus and at the Freeman’s Common campus where most of your teaching will take place. There are water coolers so you can fill up a water bottle but there are no food heating facilities available.
Join the Chartered College of Teaching for FREE!
Follow this link to sign up for free as a PGCE student – https://chartered.college/join/student-membership/
This will give you access to a range of useful articles that are relevant to your training. During the year, we will be referring to some of the resources and articles that are available to members. As part of the membership you will have access to 3 Impact journals across the year with articles written by teachers and educational professionals. These may be useful for your assignments and to include in your reflections across the course.
Join a Teaching Union
Two recognised teachers’ unions exist, with members from a range of subjects and different kinds of schools and colleges, and will provide publicity about their services to you during your time as a student. Student membership of each of these is free of charge, and entitles you to most of the benefits of full membership. Entry to any events provided by a union for students is usually not dependent on your being a member. One valuable benefit of union membership is the insurance cover that is provided without cost. You have the right to choose whether or not to belong to a trade union.
The unions are:
